Today was the first day of my internship and it was honestly the most fun I have had in a long time. This is my first experience working at a floral shop, so I was kinda nervous and didn't really know what to expect. My day started out unpacking, cleaning, and organizing dirty vases in the back of the store. Some people would consider this a "lame" job, but I thought it was really cool to see every aspect that consists of working and owning a floral shop. Its not always going to be wedding bouquets and fresh cut flowers. There is brute work that comes with it too!

After all of the housekeeping tasks were complete, I was able to join in on the action. An employee and myself were sent off to deliver a casket piece and two condolence wreaths. I have never been to a funeral home, let alone a funeral, so I was anxious to see what this delivery consisted of. This spring semester I took a Retail Floristry class, and there was a lecture telling the etiquette of delivery to a funeral, but I don't think you can really understand until you live it. It wasn't as bad as I expected, we just left the pieces in a small hallway on the side of the home and signed a document proving we delivered the arrangements. I wouldn't say it was exciting, but it was a new experience and pretty cool.

When we returned from our delivery the flowers had finally returned for the three weddings Petal Patch was doing this Saturday. Once we finished processing all fo the flowers and greenery we got to the fun stuff. Designing the wedding flowers. The prices ranged between $400-2.500 and it was really cool to see the difference in all three weddings and bride's taste. I was put on boutonniere duty which I didn't mind at all. Bouts are simple are very hard to mess up, which I was grateful for because this wasn't just Hort lab, people were paying for this out of pocket. I was completely shocked at how many bouts were for one wedding. I ended up making around 20 boutonnieres and by the end my back was aching.

Other than the aching back and sore feet, today was a successful day and I am excited to go back tomorrow and finish the wedding orders.
